Thread on the shooting of unarmed Black men by police. Lots of white ppl say, "Why did he run away? Why didn't he just comply and go quietly in handcuffs?" One reason: the victims know what may happen next: coercive interrogations, days/weeks/mos spent locked up . . .

White ppl think, the system will function properly and if these Black men didn't do anything they will be released. But too often that's not what happens. After months locked up, Black & brown ppl plead to things they didn't do to get out of jail and get their lives back . . .

Then Black & brown ppl are burdened by criminal records that close off jobs and housing. Or maybe they fight their case & lose. Now they are wrongfully convicted and locked away for decades. So, white ppl, if you knew that, wouldn't you run too? You would run for your lives.
