#NJFconference2020

A panel discussion including JP Bourguignon and @thuveson @tobbekrantz @PamFredman1 discusses “What is our future?”

Brilliantly moderated by Julia Sabet ( @orebrouni, can’t find her handle) who was not afraid to ask the right questions!

@NJFSweden
@thuveson speaking for national funder @Vetenskapsradet:

“Challenging, rewarding & bright”
Sadly we’re offered the age-old message that it is wholly rewarding to be a scientist. Whilst true, this idealistic maxim ignores the role of bad research culture, and need to fix it.
@tobbekrantz, former #highered minister:

“We shouldn’t have to choose between academic excellence and collaboration with industry”
Very true, so why penalise/prevent researchers returning from industry who want to continue an academic career? ( #5yearrule)
JPB ( @ERC_Research President):

Lifelong learning is a major endeavour of universities (using #AI as an example), so institutions need to recognise this.
The academic workforce is still a workforce, and needs to adapt accordingly.
@PamFredman1, President of @IAU_AIU:

Some fresh words, calling upon the funders to open up better career paths (👏!) and is generally critical about the culture/infrastructure available in Sweden.
