Want Warnock and Ossoff to win the two Georgia US Senate seats?

Ads, texts, and calls won't be enough.

Here's a mini-thread on why ramping up in-person canvassing there is necessary and possible. 1/
Apparently, few if any GA groups canvassed for the general election.

In fact, major groups coordinating this work had banned canvassing.

This was reasonable after how hard GA was hit by COVID-19 and how little we knew about safely knocking doors in a pandemic.

But... 2/
But now we know much, much more. Many groups elsewhere knocked doors and we know that:

Masks on volunteers
+ Masks on voters
+ Distance
+ Only being outside

= Very low risk of infection

3/
We also know how saturated call/text systems can get with volunteers, and how fatigued (or even annoyed and alienated) voters get with receiving dozens of texts and calls. 4/
Also, we know that many people ignore the texts and calls but do answer the door.

And others who aren't moved by calls or texts are moved by a real person in front of them. Especially if "deep canvassing" approaches are used. 5/
So if we think GA needs the best ground game possible, and know that we can't simply money our way into it (money will pour in), what's needed to make that happen? 6/
First, GA groups would need to shift to embrace canvassing. It's their state, and well-intentioned outside support that isn't welcome would be a setup for failure.

But the evidence of impact and safety is there, so hopefully local leaders are convinced. 7/
Second, the @dscc needs to get on board.

They did embarrassingly poorly on Election Day.

They need to leave the DC professionalized, careerist consultant bubble and re-evaluate their strategy. They need to take a stance going beyond ads to embrace on personal outreach. 8/
Third, national groups and candidates with deep experience in canvassing need to lend their talent, fundraising, and volunteer lists.

Think: @AOC @sunrisemvmt @OurRevolution @PplsAction @NationalNurses

These folks need the Senate for GND and M4A, so it makes sense. 9/
These groups have legions of volunteers with experience, people who would dedicate the time if their travel and lodging were sorted out.

These groups have immense training and coaching capacity which is a crucial bottleneck to scale. 10/
While I hope there is a plan for more of a ground game in the next 2 months, I am not counting on it.

Let's pressure these groups to use the best tools we have to mobilize voters: Canvassing and deep canvassing, with ample training and coaching.

What do you think? 11/11
