This belief actually originated from the mild punishments Russians(Orthodox Christians)had for homosexuality, in comparison to those in W.Europe.

Initial Western draconian punishment for for homosexuality, shunning of male affection and such might have even caused such surge in homosexual and feminine behavior we see today, to begin with.

Another trend I noticed,it that societies which put great significance to male friendship&affection,with tendency of showing it(cheek kissing,hand holding etc.)actually do have greater disdain for homosexuality than "artificial" masculinity(in the West)which shuns such things.

Westerners tend to sexualize everything.Where one would see innocence&friendship,they see something sexual.

Example:it's/was totally normal in Serbian society for children to be naked in summer&run around neighborhood as such.When Americans saw it,they associated it with pedophilia&caused some scandal.
In normal societies people would grow old not knowing homosexuality even existed.
