So I finally rewatched the Dolphins game. My take away? Goff was not nearly as bad as I thought he was. He was put into a ton of terrible positions. Now, that’s not to say he played even close to good enough. But I think we need to recognize exactly what happened. A short thread.
This was a fantastic call by Miami. Goff didn’t see the DT drop back into zone and was pressured immediately. However, ITS 2ND AND TWO! Why is McVay calling 5 wide? Just run the damn ball or play action. Jesus.
Yeah, this one is probably on Goff. I know he likes Everett one on one but he needs to recognize the 6 vs 5 at the line and take the slant. Also, terrible effort by Reynolds. He looked like he was jogging.
I’m putting this because it was a back breaker. Our special teams has been lackluster this year and this really gave the Dolphins the momentum. Defense probably gives our offense another chance since Hekker bombed this.
Akers needs to take the inside blitzer. Maybe this is what McVay was talking about with Akers needing to do a better job without the ball in his hands? Either way, Goff should probably sit down here. But he really had no chance once Akers missed his assignment.
And the final turnover is the nail in the coffin. Everett misses his block, Goff fumbles, Miami capitalizes. Oof.
And unfortunately, Everett drops this first down and kills any hope of a comeback.
