#MughalHammam: Some images of the Shalimar hammam (Srinagar) during its conservation, many, many, many years back. Also, remembering my colleague at INTACH, Aabid Khan who worked on the project with me. Most of the images are courtesy INTACH. 1/
The various stages of cleaning, excavation, repair & consolidation. Could not find the final exterior images of the outer façade. 2/
During the excavation we found traces of the original Mughal pathway and Mughal terracotta tiles buried some 2 feet below earth. These tiles are the only such found (so far) in Kashmir, & more importantly trace the original Mughal material used for paving, unlike the Devri 3/
This is an image of the hammam (facing the garden) post consolidation. Unfortunately, the rear side of the hammam facing the main road is today again in bad state- with graffiti, posters, encroachment & damaged plaster.4/
After work was completed, the project authorities had some incongruous looking wooden sun shades installed over openings. Also, if I remember correctly an inauguration stone in one of the niches, whereby a Minister inaugurated a 17th century hammam in 21st century!!!
