1. Hi @OfficialUoM @ManchesterSU, I just wanted to see what you think of the SU management's decision to furlough staff based upon hours worked during September/October 2020 (a time when hours where drastically reduced due to tier restrictions)?
2. Furthermore, @OfficialUoM @ManchesterSU what do you think of this alert being issued on 12th November. Giving us less than 24 hours to respond before the deadline of 13th of November, which if missed would result in student staff receiving no furlough pay at all?
3. I would like to know what @OfficialUoM and @ManchesterSU will be doing to rectify this situation and to avoid plunging students into further hardship during a time in which they are already suffering from being in one of the worst job markets in history.
4. Perhaps some media outlets and public figures in Manchester would be interested in this situation? @themancunion @MENnewsdesk @TheTab @Sacha_Lord @AndyBurnhamGM
5. AN UPDATE! Two important sections from emails I have received from @ManchesterSU in response to my concerns (main email body cropped to remove personal information). What I hate about this email is the pressure to sign on to an inadequate furlough or receive nothing at all
6. It's important to note that the rushing out of this furlough calculation is also entirely the fault of @ManchesterSU management, as staff have been emailing for weeks with no response. This was due to a key member of the HR department being on holiday with no cover arranged.
7. Side note, I forgot to mention @benjaminjward in this thread so far! He is the current Executive Director of the @ManchesterSU. He might have something to say about many of the staff at the SU facing unfair financial hardship because of decisions made by his management team?
8. There's a lot to unpack in this thread. Basically, @ManchesterSU want to calculate furlough based upon a quiet few weeks reopening after initial lockdown, rather than the gov recommended yearly calculation. I can only assume the incentive is to pay less NI contributions. Vile.
9. At the time of sending this tweet, I have received no attempt from @ManchesterSU to discuss or rectify the concerns of myself and the other staff, despite the fact that I was offered the opportunity to discuss the situation today with them....
10. ....this lack of any communication in good time before the deadline set by @ManchesterSU means that student staff will be forced to choose between poverty wages or no wages, without the opportunity for meaningful discussion about it. This is a terrible look for @OfficialUoM
11. So after two days of trying to contact HR at @ManchesterSU to discuss concerns about their implementation of the extended CJRS, I got this email. Not a single one of my concerns were properly acknowledged and the meeting is after the deadline for furlough claim submissions.
