We can’t solve the problem with education as long as the media are complicit.The President has indeed been a master of ratings, getting 5 years of top billing news coverage almost every day in just about every major outlet.

Of course Faux News is the biggest offender, actively supporting his lies, sometimes inspiring his lies, and being the most popular station. With a 30 second spot costing about $100k, the value of 4 years of nonstop propaganda is approximately $420 billion.

Trump has decided the topics the media cover, and changed the topic every whenever he wants to distract from something unfavorable. (That part is called a “dead cat” strategy.)

A big goal of their comms strategy is to sow chaos and doubt, particularly doubt in expertise and science. They are waging a war against facts that undermines any of our attempts at education. @jasonintrator How Fascism Works illuminates all of this.

Conservative voters aren’t listening to us at all, so right now it wouldn’t matter what we told them.

We need to focus on organizing ourselves and taking action. Liberals and progressives working together on concrete positive changes to make all of our lives better, including conservative voters’. Like student loan forgiveness, protecting ACA, getting COVID under control.

Individually, if we can aim for tolerance of the conservatives we know as being smart and well-intentioned human beings—without trying to convert them—this will be a good place to start.

(I’m not advocating tolerance of the politicians and media who are putting our national security in jeopardy for their own gain. That’s what the organizing is for.)
