1/14, Hi, welcome to our paper on the Online Access to the Index of Investigations (OASIS) & forthcoming training workshops funded by @HistoricEngland and run by @AlisonJames81 of @MSDSMarine and @sheruggi of Ashtree Heritage.

@oasis_data @ADS_UPDATE @InstituteArch #SMACon2020
2/14, So what is OASIS? Developed and hosted by the Archaeological Data Service (ADS), it is an online index to all archaeological work carried out in England and Scotland. Reports on the work are uploaded to the Library of the ADS via OASIS

@ADS_UPDATE @oasis_data #SMACon2020
3/14, OASIS first went live in England in 2004. Since then, over 90,000 records from England, Scotland and the maritime region of Wales have been collected. The unpublished reports of 51,940 of these records have been made freely available in the Library of the ADS

#SMACon2020
4/14, All of these reports are searchable & retrievable. It also hosts accessible digital archives and signposts the location of physical ones as well. Reports have been accessed over 55,091 times with new records created every week @ADS_UPDATE #archaeologicalarchives #SMACon2020
5/14, In 2020, OASIS has been redeveloped to better meet the needs of the heritage sector. It plays a big part in facilitating a more coordinated & simplified approach to data sharing. OASIS V can connect all parts of the sector, including museums, for the first time.
#SMACon2020
6/14, An important part of OASIS V is linking to documentary, physical and digital archives. It is of relevance to all Museums with archaeological collections.
OASIS V has loads of great new features designed to support Museums. Let’s take a look...

#SMACon2020
7/14, In OASIS V, museums can:
Review records
Get advance notice of archive deposition
Record accession numbers
Update collecting policies and areas
Communicate with the sector through OASIS at all stages of the archive deposition process

#SMACon2020 #archaeologicalarchives
8/14, Why use OASIS? Depositors can upload data management plans and if an archive has been subject to a selection & retention process. All of which museums will be able to view. With advance notice, museums can ensure requirements are followed
#SMACon2020 #archaeologicalarchives
9/14, OASIS improves connections and relationships with other parts of the sector. It assists with future planning of archive depositions and can help improve access to physical archaeological archives.
