1/4: Listening to @julian_glover giving evidence to @CommonsEAC Biodiversity and Ecosystems Inquiry. Clear on need for #NationalParks & #AoNBs to do more for nature & for people & that state of nature in these places has declined in 70yrs since the designations were introduced

2/4: Many of the reasons for this outside the control of #NationalParks & #AONBs (e.g. need for support from properly resourced #ELM scheme) BUT they also need to focus more on nature & sort out governance (Glover Review evidence showed #NationalPark Boards rarely discuss nature)

3/4: Asked about @BorisJohnson commitment to protect 30% of England's land by 2030 @julian_glover welcomed this but rightly stressed that it's not enough to just designate places - need to make the better & that takes action & resources. (Hear,hear!!)

4/4: @julian_glover points out that nature also needs to be restored across the wider countryside - but if #NationalParks & #AoNBs can't do better for wildlife than the wider countryside then what's the point?
