Few weeks ago I had the honour of presenting during the Food Innovation Day hosted by @WFP Tunisia during #WorldFoodDay2020 about #WEFNexus modelling research we carry out in our group @polimi and @FEEMit.

My first thread:
1/7
The first framework presented is CIVICS, a combination of #SupplyChainAnalysis, #InputOutput and #EnergyModelling for assessing the national (Jobs, Economy) and global (SDGs) impact of development policies aimed at improving specific sectors of national economics. @nigolred
2/7
An example is its application to the #Coffee supply chain in #Kenya, after the identification of hotspots, possible interventions strategies are proposed. Intercropping, machinery renewal and anaerobic digestion of supply chain's waste for #biogas production.

Thanks to I/O, an #industrialecology model and #openenergymodel Calliope the expected impacts on the environment, the national economy and the energy system of the country are explored. #watersaving #emissionsreduction #jobcreation among others.

The second framework, M-LED, is a platform aiming at estimating the latent #electricitydemand of #ruralareas including #productive uses of electricity such as energy for switching rainfed crops to #irrigation and crop processing for electrification strategies improvement.

#OpenData and #opensource software are at the core of this GIS based work. Hydrological and Agronomical constraints are taken into account for estimation of the required energy and potential increase in revenues. @giacfalk the mind behind this beauty.

6/7
The results provide not only #highresolution spatial information, but also 1 hour timestep #loadcurve per every sector considered. Increasing the quality of inputs required by Geospatial Electrification Models. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/343523906_M-LED_multi-sectoral_latent_electricity_demand_assessment_for_energy_access_planning
