Hi @AndrewYang,
It’s not a mystery. We don’t need to “figure it out it”, it’s voter suppression, decades of hyperpartisanship, rolled up in disinformation.
When Obama was elected in Ohio and Iowa in 2008 and 2012 that was before the Voting Rights Act was gutted in 2013. https://twitter.com/andrewyang/status/1326507419543941121
Disinformation has proliferated during Trump’s regime: “Despite its small viewership, Trump has helped OAN gain outsize reach and reputation by endorsing its outrageous reporting and by his multiple assertions that he might prefer the network to Fox News.” https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2020/06/one-america-news-network-staff/
We already knew America was divided and has been so since before the Civil War, but Putin & Trump exploited that and racial resentment through the use of Nationalistic disinformation then coupled that voter suppression and you have our current situation. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/how-russian-fake-news-hardened-americas-divide/
Acting like this is a mystery gets us no where. It’s clear that much of this country is suffering from decades of lower wages not keeping up w/inflation, growing isolation, and a growing dependence on narcotics to deal with both. Trump & the GOP have long exploited all of that.
The GOP platform for decades has been a lie: “The reason you’re suffering is because of them [insert ethnic group, boogeyman, or democrats here].” Not only has The GOP has done nothing to help their own base but they robbed us of voting rights while lining their own pockets.
The GOP are anti-democracy. Democracy has only been useful to them as a way to use the government to get everything they want while saying “Government has no place in our lives.” Meanwhile they’ve whacked the government like a piñata to get tax-break and subsides for themselves.
The GOP have used the government to roll back regulations for massive cooperations while appointing judges to gut the VRA & telling women and marginalized groups what we can and cannot do with our own bodies while claiming they advocate for “small government.”
