“A big chunk of people have disconnected themselves from the face-to-face world yet are still leading a full economic life. That means remote workers are contributing less to the infrastructure of the economy whilst still receiving its benefits."
So frustrating to read this story of comment. First, working from home doesn't mean you're disconnected from the face to face world - people at work are not the only people in the world.
Secondly, wfh shifts the economic spend from city centre to suburban and rural. It's a change, not a drop in economic contribution.
Thirdly, seeing remote work as a privilege rather than an equal choice ignores huge groups of those less able to travel, those who have other responsibilities, and those who don't have offices.
What a poor shortsighted view on the modern world. Paying workers less or taxing them more simply because of where they work is discrimination. You pay workers for their work, not the place they do it.
