The US had +142,808 new confirmed COVID-19 cases today, a new record for the 2nd day in a row, bringing the total to over 10.7 million. The 7-day moving average rose to over 129,000 per day.
There are now over 3.8 million active cases in the US.
37 US states had over 1,000 new cases today. Texas and Illinois led the pack again today with over 12,000 each.
Texas had its highest number of new cases today since its previous peak on July 15th.
Illinois had a record number of new cases today, for the 2nd day in a row.
Illinois had its highest number of COVID-19 deaths today since May 27th.
Kansas had a record number of new cases today.
Indiana had a record number of new cases today, its first day above 5,000.
Minnesota had a record number of COVID-19 deaths today.
New York had its highest number of new cases today since May 3rd.
Pennsylvania had its highest number of COVID-19 deaths today since June 10th.

Testing has risen in the US, but infections are rising faster. The positive test rate has now risen to 8.5%, higher than at any point during "second wave" this summer.
The positive test rate in Illinois is now 12.4%.

That's ... very bad.
The positive test rate in Iowa is 49.3%. That means a LOT of milder (but contagious) infections are likely going undiscovered.
