Here is a fact check of the arguments being used against affordable housing on this vacant lot: https://twitter.com/WedgeLIVE/status/1326683803692249094
“This is out of scale with the neighborhood”
> there was literally a giant grain elevator on the site in 2018
“The site is heavily polluted”
> the neighborhood grew food here for ten years
“Children will be harmed near the train tracks”
> there is a school next to the same train tracks three blocks up the street
“This will harm artists”
> this provides 13,400 sqft of art studio space, plus 164 homes for art patrons for the studios next door
“People shouldn’t live next to industrial sites”
> people literally live nextdoor to the site of this apartment.
“There is no outdoor play space for the kids”
> There are two parks within two blocks of this building. Fees assessed from this development are even used to improve those parks.
“This site is zoned for industrial use and that’s how it should stay”
> they do not, in fact, want a factory to be built on this site either
“This will block access to our loading dock”
> the loading dock is on an entirely different block than this building
