Great demonstrating why I love science!
Review of a new preprint finding (1) ~5% of popn has antibodies from virus infections that are cross-reactive to #SARSCoV2 but (2) these antibodies don’t seem to protect from #COVID19 & (3) cross-reactivity not more common in kids...1/ https://twitter.com/jbloom_lab/status/1326579175726067712

Paper & thread important bc recent @ScienceMagazine paper got lots of press reporting (1) similar prevalence of cross-reactive antibodies in adults but (2) posited protection from #SARSCoV2 & #COVID19 and (3) more cross-reactivity in kids ...2/ https://twitter.com/WhitneyEpi/status/1325814097368190976?s=20
But @ScienceMagazine study didn’t test cross-reactive antibody effects on infection or illness directly. And the sample of kids in that study was small and not very representative. 3/
Here’s another great thread from one of authors of the new study. https://twitter.com/SCOTTeHENSLEY/status/1326216898812506113?s=20 4/
And thanks to @MaxJordan_N for alerting me to this new paper and the insightful commentary around it.
