3/ The Guardian and the BBC both confirmed that reporting a couple of months later. Bill Barr’s extraordinary actions over Mike Flynn, who was facing a light sentence and possibly even probation, reflect a determination to get rid of the probe on Flynn altogether.
4/ For those who have followed the twists and turns of the Flynn case with @File411 @MuellerSheWrote or @KlasfeldReports, it certainly has seemed an extraordinary amount of effort over a nothingburger. FBI were close to, but had not, closed their file on Mike Flynn.
5/ However, in early 2017 the Pentagon announced it was opening an investigation into Mike Flynn. Specifically over the fact that Flynn took payments from Russia Today without declaring this or getting approval from DoD.

7/ A few small payments from a foreign adversary that had not been declared may not sound like a big deal. On its own, it’s not a big deal. But the Pentagon could then theoretically prosecute, in a court martial, crimes that *arose* from the original crime.
8/ We don’t know what, if any, crimes they supposed arose from the alleged crime of Donald Trump’s APNSA taking payments from the Russian state. But with his cries of “digital soldiers” and other things.... it doesn’t take much imagination to imagine suboptimal outcomes.

10/ Knowing that Flynn sang to get the sweetheart deal he did, you would think Trump would be furious. Instead, the full might of @alfabank in the person of Bill Barr was marshaled to save Flynn even from this, and to declare there was no legit case against him.
11/ The @AlfaBank position that Flynn’s lie was not material because *there was no underlying case* is absolutely crucial. Russia / Alfa Bank-Barr and Trump both need to “fruit of the poisoned tree” anything against Mike Flynn.
12/ Mike “Dinner with Putin” Flynn. Mike “ @DrJillStein and Peskov” Flynn. That Mike Flynn. That dinner, incidentally, Flynn was paid to attend... by Russia Today.
13/ Yes, the same source of unacknowledged payments that the Pentagon were investigating. And so any crimes Flynn committed that flowed from those unauthorized payments could come under UCMJ.
14/ Devin Nunes loyalists, which means those who share his love of the Russian intelligence point of view, have not just been sent to the NSA. They’ve also been sent to the Pentagon. Kash Patel is now installed there. He attacked @AVindman on impeachment.
15/ Russia wants very much to know what the United States has on 2016. Allow me to say to them @Mod_Russia - everything. Patel’s “speciality” is exposing intelligence that harms efforts to prove collusion.

17/ Without permission from the American Embassy, or notice to the UK Embassy, or the House Intelligence Committee or even its then leading Republican, Patel tried to barge in on Chris Steele unannounced at his offices in London. He was not allowed in.
18/ On the NSC he was supposed to be doing counterterrorism things but instead strayed “wildly out of his policy area”, trying to usurp @AVindman, disturbing Fiona Hill, and so forth. What he really did was run interference for Trump’s operation against Biden
19/ An operation where Kash Patel’s mentor @DevinNunes had dealt directly with assets of Russian intelligence. Therefore it doesn’t matter, if past is prologue, what his nominal job is at the Pentagon. He is there to expose intelligence. On Mike Flynn in 2016.
20/ Patel also authored the ‘Nunes memo’ which exposed that the FISA on Carter Page was in October. DOJ and FBI had asked @DevinNunes not to release the memo, which was one long, fraudulent attempt to “fruit of the poisoned tree” the Page FISA...
21/ Because, as I reported exclusively in 2018, and re-upped last night earning me a blocking from the Director of National Intelligence (yes really) John Radcliffe, Carter Page called Kash Patel’s boss @DevinNunes from Moscow. And whatever they said was admissible in court.
