Travis Scott's Astroworld Fest is officially postponed to 2021. It's def one of the more unique music festivals.

Most festivals announce lineups, then sell tix.

But Astroworld flips it. It sells out first, then announces the lineup.

It's all part of his strategy.
He hides the lineup until the day before the show, but still sells out 50K tickets in well in advance.

It's not like his lineup is lacking. In 2019 he got:

Megan Thee Stallion
DaBaby
Migos
Young Thug
DaBaby
Pharrell
Gucci Mane

That lineup could sell a festival itself!
Travis does this to sell fans on his brand.

It builds a stronger community with fans who are there to see Travis. It also strengthens Travis Scott's value-prop to sponsors and festival partners.
A challenge for large musical festivals is the wide range of acts who attract a wide range of fans.

Who is the Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza customer?

Sponsoring those events is like a Super Bowl ad—all breadth, not much depth.
Meanwhile, we ALL know who the Travis Scott fan is:

The majority are men age 18 - 29, probably hypebeasts, and maybe into gaming.

Travis and his Astrofest sponsors know exactly who they're serving.
