All too often I see thanks given to individuals when in fact it’s taken a whole team to reach an end goal, rarely do people realise the effect this has on those team members who seldom gain recognition or acknowledgement for their role in a team objective. I’m a great (1)
believer in praise where it’s due but not at the expense of alienating or belittling others. Yes, there are times people need to be made aware of their weaknesses but to do so in a public domain is not only spiteful but has scope to create toxicity (2).
The toxicity that those people behind such expect HR teams to eradicate. So, before you send that email, group text, tweet or anything else PLEASE consider how your words make those you fail to recognise feel.
There is NO I in team but there is a huge WE!
