Gov. Mike DeWine says a vaccine could be ready as soon as December and that should give Ohioans hope. It will go to health care workers and the most vulnerable first.
Gov. DeWine refers to this as a third spike of coronavirus. "This surge is much more intense, widespread and dangerous."
DeWine says COVID-19 testing has doubled in Ohio, but the cases have increased nearly four fold.
DeWine says hospitals are operating like they would during peak flu season in January, but unlike the flu, the coronavirus cases are not trending down, putting a strain of health care workers. "They have been running a marathon for nine straight months."
DeWine says he was asked by hospital administrators to confirm Ohio is still in a state of emergency and it remains ready to support hospital systems.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine: "We've got to get back to basics." He emphasizes hand washing, mask wearing and not having gatherings. He also mentions proper ventilation indoors.
