It's incomprehensible to me how countless people who hate Bolsonaro continue to insist that he's just a crazy guy who has no idea what he's doing. He enjoys remarkably high approval ratings in the midst of a pandemic & historic recession, and could very well be reelected in 2022.
The truth is, particularly when it comes to his embrace of traditional politics: Bolsonaro has shown a degree of tenacity and pragmatism that Trump was never capable of or interested in. If Trump had ever cared to appeal to people outside of his base, he could have won reelection
You may disagree with Bolsonaro, but he's perfected the art of saying crazy stuff in order to divert attention. Yesterday was a great example: He invented some non-sense to stop people paying attention to investigations against his son and decided to threaten the US militarily.
Somewhere, deep in the presidential palace, some very gifted person writes five crazy phrases that Bolsonaro can choose from divert public attention every day. Requirement: They must be nasty enough to produce temporary outrage, but ideally not cause lasting damage.
Ideally, comments must go against people's basic sense of decency, triggering them to react. Making fun of dead people, minorities, women, etc. The more people tweet about it, the better. Nobody wants to talk about unemployment rates when Bolsonaro just made fun of dead people.
