Great words from 75th Ranger Regt’s padre, who describes Veterans Day & the importance of service. “A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to “The USA,” for an amount up to & including their life.”

On our side of the pond, we call it Armistice Day & our focus is on remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who demonstrated selfless service.
What is selfless service? “Selfless service means putting the welfare of my nation, my Army & my Regiment above my own, without any need of recognition.”

As Martin Luther King Jr said, “Life’s most persistent & urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’”
Today, Selflessness is one of the Army’s Values. As soldiers & officers we must all strive to demonstrate it, every day, & especially on operations, just as our predecessors did, when many of them cashed that cheque in the defence of our nation.
