This is in an email from @FRRACS_MA & I want everyone to read this. It's important.

Dear FRRACS Member,

We had a rather difficult monthly meeting last night, but in the midst of all of it we began to reflect on all that we have accomplished together in the almost six years
1/
of this fight. Member Andrea said, "Can you write that down?"

We thought that this is a good time to stop for a moment and reflect on what this fight has been about and what YOU, our dear Member, have done.

Here are the "tangibles" that we are thinking about now:
2/
For five of those six years you prevented this ugly facility from destroying the last green space in the Fore River Basin. Yes, we know that the site is/was contaminated. But Mother Nature had begun to take over. In the construction of this ugly mess, Enbridge took down over
3/
40 trees, dug up native milkweed and wild sweet pea, destroyed the habitat of monarch butterflies, dragonflies, rabbits, turtles, and toads and likely took away mice and other feedstock of the Bald Eagles living in the Basin area.
4/
You stopped the fracking, shipping, and burning of

132,968,251 standard cubic feet of fracked, methane gas every single day for three years.

That is 145,600,234,845 scf per day;

145.6 billion scf in three years—that’s a huge number.

Huge.
Y'all, let me break in here and repeat

We saved 145.6 billion square cubic feet of methane from being fracked from the Marcellus Shale region of PA as we delayed Enbridge's schedule with our hustle.

¡¡¡145.6 billion square cubic feet of fracked methane!!!

6/
You have helped to stop the destruction of the Shubenacadie River in Nova Scotia. Enbridge, through Heritage Gas, still has plans to make salt caverns in the tribal fishing waters of the Mi’kmaq. The First Nations people have held camp there to prevent this for the past seven
7/
years. These salt caverns depend on the shipping of this gas from Weymouth. You have stood in solidarity with our First Nations brothers and sisters in the @StopAltonGas fight.

You have helped stop the building of an LNG conversion facility in Robbinston, Maine. The
8/
project was on shaky ground in 2015, but in 2016, due to their inability to procure gas from the I-10 line out of Weymouth, and due to the protracted fight by the Passamaquoddy in Maine, the project went bankrupt.

You have—hopefully—stopped the building of an LNG facility in
9/
Goldboro, NS. This is the Pieradae facility that we have talked about for six years that has never broken ground. At least 46% of the gas coming through Weymouth was slated to go to this facility for shipping all over the world. In these six years, investors have abandoned
10/
this project and contracts for the gas have vaporized. They keep pushing the drop-dead date to get this started and as this happens, more money is being pulled away.

You have woken the sleeping giant that is the @MassDEP. You have forced them, daily, to have to do

11/ #mapoli
their job. Noting that they are still doing it very poorly, they have not been able to ignore you. In her approval of the air quality permit, Jane Rothchild bothered to note that the DEP needs to reconsider its policy of NOT counting background (cumulative) emissions
12/
when permitting new polluting facilities. She also stated that the process of the DEP agency hearing was “unfair” to the petitioners (that’s you). Two statements that seem mild to us, but in fact, were big for DEP. And, maybe—just maybe—the next guy in the door of the DEP
13/
will have a fighting chance because of you.

You have educated yourselves about Environmental Justice and how this affects our Basin home. We are a sacrifice zone to the rich and powerful fossil fuel industry. We will be silent no more.

14/
You have been part of a global fight to bankrupt the fossil fuel industry in order to force the development and support of alternative renewable energy systems. Fracked gas is basically worthless. (So why are your energy bills so high?? Because the DPU allows companies

15/
like Enbridge to charge you for the cost of their buildings and pipelines and then gives them a 14% return on investment—out of your pocketbook.) Ireland and France are just two nations that have stopped the import of fracked gas from the U.S. in the past five years.

16/
You have been part of the global fight against climate change—change that is driven by human activities. Look at the chart below. 46.6% of greenhouse gas emissions are from the energy sector. Do not let them convince you that it’s all about cow poo. And further,

17/
look at the subsectors. Methane is now responsible for 18% of the total—and it is rising every year. This figure is even likely to be understated because the industry has lied, consistently, about the amount of leakage and intentional release totals.

18/
You have all become active, engaged, organizers. Holding signs, putting signs on your lawns, talking to your neighbors, lit dropping, donating, writing letters, making phone calls, engaging with elected officials, attending agency and court hearings, attending FRRACS
19/
meetings every month for almost six years, and finding your voice in all of this. You are the power behind the movement. Warriors, one and all!

So while the @TownofWeymouth has abandoned the fight, we never will. And we know that we can count on you to be the backbone of
20/
the movement.

Rev. Betsy and Rev. Gretchen like to remind us that this is all about justice. You are Justice Warriors--for your families, for your community, and for the planet. "...let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an everflowing stream."
21/
Thank you for everything you have done and all that you will continue to do. Give yourself a big old Covid Hug from us.

In Solidarity and Resistance
