A quick thread about veterans.
Many people, orgs, etc use social media to thank veterans on Veterans Day. And let us be among them. We appreciate what they have done and what so many service members are currently doing in the Armed Forces.

What unites so many veterans is their continued desire to serve after leaving the military, in whatever way they can. Many end up in government, including many of us at Treasury.
When a person tries to tear down government, they’re not just tearing down what they may think of as some lazy bureaucrat. They’re tearing down the work of so many hard-working civil servants, including so many veterans that they claim to support.
Veterans face the tough job of finding a home for themselves back within the very places they stepped outside of to try and protect.
When they find meaning and purpose in rebuilding those communities, the most disrespectful thing you can do is tear them apart.

Americans have died to protect not just their fellow Americans, but the promise of what this country could still become. Honoring a veteran is more than writing a “V” on your hand or making a post. It’s about building a future where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
