My Grandpa died 6 years before I was born. The only story I heard, from Dad, that his Dad had talked about was the last day - how from about 5:30 am the guns started - all the guns - and the earth shook and the huge roar that never stopped. 1/3
Imagine all the artillery firing continuously. The earth shook like an earthquake. The incredible, unceasing noise for hours on end. And then, on the 11th hour of the 11th day, it was over. It just stopped and silence. I can't imagine it. It made an impression on Grandpa. 2/2
