David Hudson, President of Xcel-SPS, says they're converting the Harrington Coal Plant to natural gas by 2025, and putting Tolk Station on seasonal operation in January, generating 4 months of the year (will be used a synchronous condenser the rest of the year).
Beth Graza, formerly the ERCOT IMM, now with R Street points out the driving growth in ERCOT. Customers, transmission (see CREZ between 2013-2016?), new generation (hello wind power!)
Gas and renewables destroying coal... "That has happened...ERCOT is good at bringing on new generation, but also good at retiring old generation." Stuff doesn't hang around on the system. Notes the huge influx in gas capacity in early 2000s.
Garza: All the wind is on the left, all the people are on the right (apologies to all your people out west, David). Actual customer demand has driven decarbonization far beyond any mandate. Market structure, transmission and abundant RE resource makes that possible.
CREZ was targeted to bring wind to load, but it's also enabling GW of solar and made Permian O&G load growth as well. Now reaching the edge of the CREZ capacity. Is there appetite for coordinated expansion?
Energy Twitter's own @MateoCrosby from Orsted from the developer perspective. Goal is to keep TX the leader in wind, and soon to be leader in solar. Talks up the Permian Energy Center as an exciting nexus between conventional O&G and renewables.
Question at the TX Energy Summit about the proposed $0.01/MWh tax on all non-natural gas generation.

David Hudson: "Rep. King is in our service territory, which is very O&G rich in the Anadarko Basin. I see this as a [political] statement, without legs, but haven't discussed."
