You know, I don't like to complain about this sort of thing because I don't like to further the narrative that "all trans people's lives are tragedies" or whatever when, for the most part, things for me are pretty okay considering the circumstances. HOWEVER.... https://twitter.com/bjcolangelo/status/1326621615254368262
Anyone who thinks they know my life, much less the life of me and my wife, needs to understand that they do not know a goddamn thing about what it is like for people like us living in Ohio.
I grew up 45 minutes west of Cleveland, firmly in the racist, red sea where I've been told by strangers that they want to drag me behind a building and kick my teeth in or if they see me again they will drag me down a gravel road behind their truck.
I am NOT inviting that kind of treatment onto myself or my wife just so I can wear some eyeliner to venture out into the cornfields of this shithole state.
There is no slumming it for me or most trans women. Casual attire that cis women take for granted that they put on to be comfy as they settle in to watch a movie sitting in their own cars is not a luxury allotted to me.
If I wear loose fitting clothes, jeans, and don't put on make up, then in the best case scenario of farm fucking nowhere I look like a gay man wear feminine clothes. That does not end well for me or anyone else in Ohio. That is why I lean in.
I am so fucking sick of people that either don't know or forget just how shitty it is in most of the country for queer people because they live in affirming states and areas. You have no idea how privileged and lucky you are.
How fucking dare you villainize my wife a decision I made for both our safeties. You're not from here. You weren't raised here. You don't know what my life is like.

Fuck you!
