1. It's a grave mistake to assuming @realDonaldTrump is operating within the logical realm of reason. His appeal, like Hitler's, or more appropriately Mussolini, is purely visceral and perhaps even pagan.
2. It would be wiser to consult Sir James Frazer's The Golden Bough and Freud/Jung than the American Constitution to understand how Trump operates. There's more Magical Thinking than Political Theory in the Trump movement.
3. Those around him, or who were once central to his election, like Steve Bannon, understand and replay Fascist/Nazi techniques of demonisation of opponents, the appeal to blood and soil, and the acquisition of power and the dissemination of lies via new media;
4. and as devastating successful, as the Fascists were in the relatively short-term, they were anything but rational.
5. Ignazio Silone laid out the mechanisms of Fascism quite clearly in The School for Dictators and made it quite clear that there is no Fascist political theory in the traditional sense.
6. It is, above all else, a primal lust for power and the maintenance of power at all costs and very little else besides; it will employ every means at its disposal and crush everyone in its way to achieve that end.

7. The Fascists and the Nazis also understood, very quickly, the power of new media, such as Cinema and Radio, and used them to devastating effect to disseminate lies, propaganda and misinformation. For Trump and his ilk, Social Media serves the same purpose.
8. The situation regarding Fake News and social media has reached such a crisis point that we're entering into a Babel-like period in which the opportunities for misunderstanding are great, and many people no longer know what's true and what's false.
9. If that point is eventually passed, we may no longer be able to defeat this new form of Fascism as we will no longer have the intellectual wherewithal to understand what's happening to us any more, or, more frighteningly, even know if it is actually really happening to us.
But there's another trend woven into this, which is equally as worrying, if not more so, and it feeds into this; and that is that people no longer care what's true or false, real or unreal, as long as it's "entertaining".
When everything is reduced to entertainment, including politics, even life and death, then I would say we're seriously in trouble. At that point, we'll be back in Rome, at the Colosseum. The rise of Trump is a signpost pointing to that very frightening and possible future.
