This is just a PSA that some people have an actual medical condition (lissencephaly) which causes a "smooth brain", and that your smooth brain memes are in fact ableist.

(I get it, you didn't know, please just don't do it again now that you know.)

I have brain fog and memory issues, and I know it can be hard to remember a specific list of words or memes that are ableist

So I'm going to share my life hack for a quick gut-check about whether something is ableist. Ready?
Does the joke or phrase rely on the assumption that some kinds of body-minds are "normal" and some are not?

Magic 8 ball says chances are this is probably an ableist joke or phrase
Obviously disabled people make jokes and may make jokes about our conditions

For example, that chronic illness meme, "my body is a temple: ancient and crumbling, probably haunted"

But note that this is about the speaker's own body...
...and the humor doesn't rest on there being a "normal" type of bodymind and one that is not

Rather it's a joke that pokes fun of all those inspirational wellness quotes, and also about having a complicated relationship with your body
There are sometimes words with an ableist history, and the ableism is so ingrained in the English language that people don't even realize that it's an ableist word.
So my other piece of advice is that if you see a word or phrase and you're not sure if it's ableist, look up the etymology of the word (or the history of the word's origins)
I've noticed that people are finally starting to realize that using "crazy" as an insult is ableist. But a lot of people have swapped in "unhinged", which...is also another ableist word that is a synonym for "crazy"

If you didn't know, now you do
Here is another thread about that. https://twitter.com/UntoNuggan/status/1287829492417822720?s=19
PS I didn't learn any of this in school or college; I learned most of it from people on the internet posting about neurodiversity, ableist language, etc.
Grateful that the AP Stylebook is finally getting on board https://twitter.com/APStylebook/status/1326172047194677251?s=19
