Abuse, women’s rights and the SNP: Thread
Earlier today, an MP accused certain people of “crossing a line”.
On a day when several of those closely associated with him decided to share or like this cartoon, one might have thought he meant them. But no. https://twitter.com/meljomur/status/1326520152985395201

It takes some fevered woman-hating to think advocating for rape victims to be able to choose the sex of a medical examiner is equivalent to murderous racistm (& came as a shock to BAME members of FWS), but why let facts get in the way of a good hate? https://twitter.com/ForwomenScot/status/1325097199328518145?s=20
At this point, we really must remind everyone: WE ARE NOT AN INDY GROUP. So why decide to include us? Probably because whoever stole the image is so blinded by their abject hate of our group that they will pass up no opportunity to send a bucket-load of abuse our way.
It worked. When this cartoon was posted on FB, charming comments included “in an independent Scotland terfs get shot” and “Terfs get the wall”. We should like to ask @ScotGovFM @NicolaSturgeon if this is, indeed, her vision for an indy Scotland? Gotta say, we aren’t keen.
In a couple of weeks, we are attending a Parl committee meeting on hate crime. A bill which gives women no protection and may, in fact, lead to false accusations against us, resulting in investigation and possible prosecution, while these violent men carry on regardless.
We are getting very tired of asking @humzayousaf and @engenderscot to condemn the violent misogyny which is enjoying something of an unchecked renaissance in “tolerant” Scotland. We know they won’t.
Actually, @EngenderScot are more likely to offer one of those disseminating such inflammatory stuff a spot writing about feminism. Oh, wait, they already did.

It was also shared by young Dylan who, some may recall, was gaslighting women last week by telling us we were admitting “inferiority” if we said we wanted our own sport and spaces.

Dylan is hosting a meeting featuring several SNP candidates on Friday - all are welcome apparently. We wonder if this includes pesky women who don’t wish to play rugby against men, or if Dylan is going to say that is a crime as hateful as racism to their faces?
Short digression: racism had a moment with gender zealots this week with black mothers, revoltingly, reduced to breeding stock in language redolent of slavers (“black birthing bodies”). Is real racism fine if wrapped in sparkles & directed at women?
We concur: TRAs are often racist & homophobic. If the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the world he did not exist, the greatest trick some sexist, racist, homophobes have pulled is to project that on to women fighting for equality. https://twitter.com/WhatWouldWings/status/1326534997008736256?s=20
A young chap who once fancied himself as a candidate - before some of his obnoxious tweets came back to haunt him - also shared this post. We wonder if @AlynSmith thinks this “crossed a line” or if, again, he is “more sinned against than sinning”?

We imagine the partner of one @rhyscrilley is also embarrassed by this. If @ScotGovFM has rallied to defend you from online criticism & you are outspoken in condemning the abuse of women in politics, it must be awful if your partner is contributing to the problem. Solidarity.
Cameron Archibald, who has written much attacking women in his party & is also good at badly photoshopped memes calling them Nazis, was most upset today that Common Weal were not similarly invested in witch hunts. He shared the post too.
Common weal, by the way, is a think tank that lobbies for left wing indy policies. Because some of those they support happen to think women should have rights (something that used to be a pretty basic tenet of the left), they are now, apparently, jack-booted fascists.
Finally, of course, we have honourable mention for current rainbow @scotgp & erstwhile women’s officer and out4indy co-convener, Emz, and @scottishlabour candidate Heather.
Both of them also liked a beheading image targeted at a woman last week.

For those in @theSNP about to vote for their NEC and at the risk of “crossing a line”, let us say this: this gov has, by it’s support for the targeting of women’s rights, it’s silence on the open abuse and harassment of women, presided over a noxious period for women.
The line from the top is that support for women who have been abused or assaulted is conditional and only extends to those willing to toe a party line - a line which puts other women in Scotland - including the most vulnerable - at very real risk.
. @scotgov claim to care about protections for women while refusing to frame laws - even for rape victims - in a manner that guarantees it. They ignored Bracadale on incl sex in hate crime, though nothing has advanced in 12 years since they were last talked out of protecting women
They refuse to address the young men who are out of control and are openly calling for the execution of women in Scotland for the crime of caring about our rights. This is on your watch @NicolaSturgeon & @HumzaYousaf. Do not be fooled into thinking women, or history, will forget.
