i’m gonna say a couple things about zionism and its relationship with the jewish community. all i ask is that you read the entire thread before saying anything because nuance is so easily lost on this app and i don’t want it to be taken out of context.

so a couple things:
1. the vast majority of jews view israel positively because we’re (for the most part) raised believing that it’s good and that we should feel connected to it, which we do.
2. it is a problem that jewish institutions overlook all the bad things about israel when +
teaching about it, particularly to youth.
3. that should be regarded as an INTRA-COMMUNITY ISSUE, though, and it is not the business of non-jews to vilify the jewish community for the one-sided israel education. leave that to other members of the jewish community. +
4. all this said, you can not deny the connection that jewish people feel with israel, whether it was a product of biased education or not. the reality is that many many jews are passionate zionists because of how meaningful the jewish state is to them. +
5. this is not an excuse for racism or xenophobia toward palestinians. i feel that it’s important to understand people’s intentions, genuinely. you cannot have integrity if you believe every zionist is a zionist because they support israeli war crimes. that’s not why they’re +
zionists. they can still be WRONG—they can still look the other way from horrendous acts done by the israeli government and military—but you cannot criticize zionists if you don’t understand them and are therefore criticizing the wrong thing.
