When my grandparents passed away we ran into this little black book. Judging from the content, it had belonged to my great grandfather. I never met him nor have heard any stories about him. Let’s open it. #RemembranceDay

2. Meet Polydoor Moens. Blond hair, blue eyes. Born in April 1895. He is in the army on the 1st of August 1914. Three days before the Germans invade.
3. He is wounded on the 11th of September and needs to be patched up in a hospital. The Belgian army retreats and he rejoins his unit at the river Ijzer where the last bit of Belgian ground is defended.
5. He appears to get quite sick at the front line and is sent to Nouvelle Eglise to recover and later on to a depot at Dieppe. Not sure how much time is spent in the trenches as the first mentioned date I can find is in 1917. He is part of the 5e regiment de ligne.
6. The last photos are taken at Boezinge which is near Ieper and another place which I have yet to decipher.
7. He is wounded again on the 14th of October 1918 and needs to stay in a hospital where he will remain for a month.
8. He is finally demobilised in August 1919. Just 19 when the war started and lucky enough to get trough the entire ordeal. Judging from the book he was of few words. Only three pages have text.
Thank you Polydoor. Thank you great granddad. #RemembranceDay
