Yandhi

Kanye’s infamous 9th studio album, lost on his road to salvation.

Here’s the complete timeline.
Yandhi Is Announced

Just 3 months after ye and Kids See Ghosts came out, Kanye announces his 9th solo album, Yandhi. Set to drop September 29, 2018, fans were excited to hear even more from Kanye.
SNL- The Night Of (Sep 29)

After missing the expected midnight drop, fans were still hopeful we’d get the album after his SNL performance. Instead, we got Kanye performing I Love It in a bottle costume, a political rant, and then- complete silence.
Black Friday (Oct 1)

Kim offered some hope when she tweeted the album had been delayed to Black Friday. It was a slight set back, but not one that was unexpected due to Kanye’s frequent album delays we’ve grown accustomed to.
Going To Africa (Oct 15)

In order to complete his album, Kanye set off to Uganda in hopes of inspiration. There, he would meet with the President of Uganda and build a studio in a safari lodge to write and record.
Potential Disaster

This next part isn’t confirmed, but adds to the mystery of the album. Kanye went on a jungle safari with his security team, but when they wouldn’t return to his hotel, he hired a local group. Fearing the group would kidnap Ye, the two groups (cont.)
Entered a standoff, both brandishing their weapons refusing to back down. The local group eventually backed off, and a plane was booked to get Kanye out of the country the next day.
Camp Flog Gnaw (Nov 11)

Kanye and Kid Cudi gave fans an amazing performance at Camp Flog Gnaw. They hung above the crowd in a floating glass box with stunning visuals behind them. After the performance however, Kanye broke the heart of fans with this tweet.
Miami (Dec-Jan)

Reports start coming in that Kanye’s been in Miami working on Yandhi with artists such as Lil Wayne, Migos, and Timbaland. Not much is known about this period, but we’d see what they were working on later.
Sunday Service (Jan 2019)

It was at this point Kanye began hosting his Sunday Services. Originally started as a way to heal himself, as he wasn’t fully saved at the time of its creation, it became a weekly event that would completely change the direction of Yandhi.
Coachella (April 2019)

Taking to Coachella with a massive choir performing on Easter Sunday, Kanye debuted a new song titled “Water.” While no album update was given, it was evident that serious change was occurring.
Yandhi Leaks (July 2019)

Starting in July, several Yandhi tracks began to surface. The first of which was Law Of Attraction, with an eventual 30 minute unrefined album following.
New Album (8/29/19)

Kim tweeted a photo of a sketch pad, with the title “Jesus Is King,” and an apparent 12 tracks listed. At the bottom, a date, September 27th. Fans theorized this could be a new album altogether, however we’d soon find out what was to become of Yandhi.
Non Secular (9/19)

Leading up to his new album, Kanye announces that he is finished making secular music. Jesus Is King would be his first true gospel album. Given how secular the leaks of Yandhi were, it seemed most likely that this would be a brand new album.
Jesus Christ Did The Laundry (10/25/19)

Kanye finally released his 9th studio album, Jesus Is King. Once fans heard the lyric “everybody wanted Yandhi, then Jesus Christ did the laundry,” it was evident the album wasn’t coming out now, or perhaps ever.
Yandhi Reworked

Although Yandhi still lives through a couple reworked songs on Jesus Is King, nobody knows what will become of the remaining songs. Donda appears to carry a few more Yandhi era tracks.
Today

Yandhi has become a beloved album within the community, despite the often unfinished production and mumbled verses. The material seemed extremely promising if finished. It’s cemented itself as one of the most famous unreleased albums of all time, and for good reason.
