Stay tuned for my Germany-to-Hong-Kong travel adventure. Off we go! 🚅
First hurdle: I can't check in for my train & flight. HK has closed its borders to foreigners, and whilst I have a HK ID, I have a German passport. So I can't check in online through Lufthansa because their system isn't prepped for this kind of thing. Checking in is "mandatory".
Because I got on the train without checking in, the airport experienced a "sequence anomaly". 32 minutes and numerous phone calls later: I'm checked in!

Note: I called the hotline yesterday and checking in at the airport is what they had advised.
At the gate. Filling out my Health Declaration form. Girl, we ain't in Kansas anymore. Check out that fine.

More on the quarantine app/tracking when I get to HK.
On the plane. Everyone is spaced out. At least one seat between everyone, and where possible a row to separate. Masks must remain on.

I don't remember a plane to HK ever being this empty. But apart from that everything seems normal.

More from me in 11 hours! 👋
Arrived safe & sound. Being herded through a new (for me) arrival protocol. Passengers staying in HK must go through multiple checks to prove they have downloaded the Stay at Home app and filled out the health declaration. Temperature check. Standard check-in baggage screening.
The phone number you provided in the health declaration is checked (they call you). Once verified, a member of staff will put on your tracking bracelet. You must then (under supervision) enter all relevant info into the app.
You must then obtain your Compulsory Quarantine Order (14 day quarantine). With this you get sample bags to submit a rapid test (you'll also need to do a nucleic acid test later). Soon we'll be shuttled to a government organised hotel for further steps.
Oops! I forgot about immigration and our luggage. 🤦‍♀️ Bus was for that. Now everyone has their stuff and we're en route to the hotel in a new bus.

Side note: I asked a nice man about paying for the hotel and dinner. He said "you no worry lahhh". So I'm not worrying.

More soon!
Hotel check-in went super quickly (HK ID check and lanyard-from-the-airport). Food pickup at elevator. Security is on each floor to make sure people stay in their rooms. Room cards are single use.

Now to enjoy my dinner with a view 👌
Side note: I did not realise this at the time but the lanyard they give you when you do your Compulsory Quarantine Order already has your room number for the hotel on it.

Now there's some next level organisation.
Also, apologies for confusion. There's no additional test today. Just waiting on results from the rapid test. I've been given everything I need to submit an additional test on Day 12 of quarantine.
Got my call at 11:03 confirming my negative test result. Hotel check-out required within 25 mins, which worked flawlessly. Just needed to display my quarantine form, HK ID and room card.

It's 12:12 and I'm home with my parents! 🏡
Honestly all-in-all really well organised by the HK government. Received two free reusable face masks upon entry, they put me up in a hotel with dinner and breakfast. Corona Test. The works. Really good system.

Will keep you updated on the tracking & second test.
