I know you’re afraid of a Trump coup. But you needn’t be. Yes, his behavior is dangerous and corrosive to democracy. But there are several reasons why you shouldn’t let fear consume you.
1. The military has never been onboard with Trump’s shenanigans. Do not underestimate the extent to which Trump has alienated top military leadership with his treatment of them. See Admiral McRaven’s op-eds. See General Mattis’s statements.
They are levelheaded and they took an oath. They are not robots. There is ZERO reason to believe the military would follow illegal orders from Trump and give force to a coup.
2. Trump has displayed a clear pattern of behavior throughout his life. Talk big, deliver little. His way of doing battle is in the courts. He’s a failed-lawsuit-and-declare-victory man, not a successful coup d’etat man.
Disloyalty begets disloyalty and Trump has been incredibly disloyal to the people who have served him. No one with any power or importance will die for Donald Trump.
3. This has been reported: top GOP leadership knows this is a charade and have reached out to Biden privately. Biden is playing along. Notice how Biden doesn’t seem especially afraid? He knows the score.
4. Four Seasons Total Landscaping. Enough said. I’m serious. THESE ARE INCOMPETENT PEOPLE. THEY ARE NOT GOOD AT THINGS. YOU MUST BE GOOD AT THINGS TO SUCCESSFULLY STAGE A COUP. YOU CANNOT BE A HUGE CLOWN.
5. You don’t go golfing when you have a coup to plan.

This will pass. Trump and his supporters are in the denial phase of grieving. It will pass and they’ll move on.
