A lot of times, ppl are shocked by others writing essays on characters, feeling that there can't be that much to say about them and that the authors did not plan for all of this.

I understand why ppl might think that way, but I have to respectfully disagree.
The essays on those characters are fully valid and the authors did plan it out.

However, the authors who crafted these characters likely did not write out long essays on them, and use those essays to decide what to do with them in the story.

Rather, they used their mind.
When writing a character, the author likely gets a feel for that character and subconsciously understands what that character is all about.

Subconsciously understanding a character is WAY easier than articulating those thoughts properly.
With this feel in mind, authors are able to utilize these characters a lot easier than writing extensive notes on a character, and referring to those notes to decide what to do with them.

It is a lot more natural this way.

The same logic applies to stories in general.
The simple fact is that articulating thoughts is a lot more extensive and challenging than subconscious feel.

The essays ppl write are fully valid, even though the author relies more on feel than extensive threads.

The feel, in articulated format, would result in a long essay.
Hopefully this makes sense!

I tried to phrase it as well as I could, so let me know if you have any misunderstandings about what I said!
