Monroe thought this was one of her best roles and performances, and I think she's right, because she did so much with what could have been a kind of empty role with the wrong actress. Monroe took a character with low screentime and made her interesting and complex. #noirvember

Monroe brings so much warmth to a movie, which was much needed. Her relationship with Stanwyck's character helps to soften the latter, make her more sensitive. That's what Monroe really brought to a lot of her noirs, warmth that kept them from being too cold & distant #noirvember

Without a performance like Monroe's, Richard Widmark's belief in her as a wounded, broken, messed up woman wouldn't have been believable. Monroe makes the character sympathetic, even as what she's doing, is awful and scary. She makes her dangerous, but sympethatic. #noirvember

The one noir where Monroe finally plays a classic femme fatale type, she brings all of her sex appeal and complexity to give us a great fatale, sexy and scheming, calculating and duplicitous, but with the possibility of more going on underneath.

I think some of the best fatales are the ones who, while going well past the point of reason, and becoming cold and self-centered, either has or might have reason to have become that way, to want someone dead, to seek the double cross. That's what we get here. #noirvember
