a thread on harry's favorite song "flowers in the window" by travis and its relation to larry, home, and sunflower, vol. 6. might be one of the 12 fine line easter eggs!!
to start off, in 2011, harry replied to a fan and said that flowers in the window by travis was his favorite song
he said the same thing in a 2012 interview:
he also included the song on his playlist for his another man photoshoot in 2016 https://www.anothermag.com/another-man/9113/listen-to-harry-styles-ultimate-mixtape-for-another-man
and in 2018, when asked what song he would have played at his funeral, he said flowers in the window by travis. (original quote is in Japanese so I have the translation here)
so, based on this, we can conclude that this song is really really important to harry. harry first mentioned the song in august 2011, so harry and Louis would have known each other for a little more than a year and would have been dating for 6-8 months depending on the timeline
here is a link to the song:
the song at first is about thinking that nobody will love you and that you'll be alone forever. but then you find someone and it flips your entire world around!! you want everything with them. you want to spend your entire life with them, to grow old and raise children together
here are the lyrics in full:
I want to focus in on a couple of lines: "But there was no-one there to hold before/ I swore that I would be alone for ever more/ Wow look at you now" this line is about feeling lonely and feeling like there isn't anyone for you, until you meet the one. this reminded me of home
and what really reminded me of home was the line "and im glad you feel the same" because of the line in home that says "I was stumbling, looking in the dark/ With an empty heart/ But you say you feel the same"
harry obviously relates to this song and louis wrote home. they both refer to feeling lost and alone until you find the one and then once you do, you dont feel alone anymore. the person will also be there to help you. the travis song says:"But I am here to help you with the load"
and home says: "When you're lost, I'll find the way
I'll be your light, You'll never feel like you're alone"
I also see references to harry and louis in this line: "So now we're here and now is fine/ So far away from there and there is time, time, time" this made me think of another one of harry's favorite songs: still the one. but it also made me think of we made it.
jumping right off that line:"So far away from there and there is time, time, time/ To plant new seeds and watch them grow/ So there'll be flowers in the window when we go" harry makes a direct reference to this line in sunflower, vol. 6 when he says"plant new seeds in the melody"
in the travis song, that line is thought to be about having children and watching them grow up. it could be the same for harry, about falling in love with someone and wanting to have children with them. since it is his favorite song, I do think he is referencing it in sunflower
in this interview, harry says that there are 12 Easter eggs on fine line. I think that the "plant new seeds" is an Easter egg, referring to his favorite song.
the song repeats "let's watch the flowers grow" many times which is referring to growing old with someone and spending your entire life with them, watching the flowers/ kids grow over the years. for harry, who has a womanizer image, this song does not fit his image.
this song fits with someone who has been in a committed relationship since he was 16 years old and is still in love to this day. 17 year old harry in 2011 couldn't wait to spend the rest of his life with the love of his life, based on how much he loved this song.
sunflower, vol. 6 also has references to domestic life and potentially their future children dancing with them in the kitchen : "Kiss in the kitchen like it's a dance floor
I couldn't want you any more tonight/ Kids in the kitchen listen to dancehall"
and as we know, harry and louis are very domestic! they are truly the cutest boyfriends and husbands of all time
anyway, that was my analysis of this song. i love it and I think it's really loud and definitely needs to be talked about more as a classic larry song. im gonna end the thread with the ending lines of the song!!
"Its such a lovely day/ And I'm glad you feel the same"
"Cause to stand up, out in the crowd/ You are one in a million/ And I love you so"
"Let's watch the flowers grow"
