#RemembranceDay
is a complicated one, especially now. A couple things I'm keeping in mind:

1. It's not a "celebration" of any kind. It's a heartfelt thanks. When we say "Lest We Forget", we're committing to remembering what was fought for and what was died for.
2. Sacrifices were made to suppress ideologies that we are STILL fighting against, like fascism and crushing dictatorships.
3. While it's great symbolism to dedicate a day to the sacrifices that have been/are being made, we need to take a closer look at how we support Veterans that are still alive.
Does it matter if we wear a poppy if we don't provide the right resources to the folks we wear it for?

4. There's a lot to this, and always will be. We can denounce the use of warfare in colonialism while applauding and honouring folks that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
This is ESPECIALLY important for Canadians, who live on stolen land.

5. #RemembranceDay
is a yearly reminder to keep thinking and acting on the hard stuff, even when it's uncomfortable and challenging.
