/6 LGSMigrants condemns the continued detainment without evidence or conviction of British citizen Jagtar Singh Johal, who has now been held for 1104 days. #FreeJaggiNow
/6 After being arrested while visiting Punjab for a wedding, Jaggi has alleged that he has been tortured, and this week his 49th trial hearing was once again adjourned without any proceedings. #FreeJaggiNow
/6 The failure of Indian authorities to convict Jaggi for alleged terror-related offenses three years on from his arrest lends credence to the claim that he’s been targeted for shining a light on the mass violence against Sikhs in 1984 by the Indian state. #FreeJaggiNow
/6 This would just be the latest episode of decades of suppression of Sikh activists in Punjab and abroad. Like Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and thousands of other British citizens detained abroad, Jaggi has been failed by the UK government. #FreeJaggiNow
/6 In fact, the Home Office has attempted repeatedly to deport Jaggi’s wife while the Johal family continue to fight for his release, just this week appealing a judge’s decision granting her right to remain. #FreeJaggiNow
/6 We condemn the Home Office’s campaign to deport Jaggi’s wife, and call on them to withdraw their appeal against a previous ruling allowing her to remain in the UK. We extend our solidarity to the Johal family and call on the UK gov to intervene on Jaggi’s behalf #FreeJaggiNow
