1/ Lots of news lately about #LongCovid. It will get more frantic as new data comes out. Some physicians with huge platforms talk about "not running too fast!"
The medical narrative for decades has been to not believe people who report vague symptoms. https://www.statnews.com/2020/10/07/covid-19-long-haulers-experience-hidden-disabilities/

2/ As you read or write about #LongCovid, let's remember a few things.
Disability isn't a way to scare people into masking.
One person with #LongCovid is enough for us to work to support them, and scare tactics about numbers are harmful.

3/
Individuals with hidden disabilities, such as those that follow #LongCovid don't just exist in the clinical & research sphere.
We may never have a way to cure brain fog, but we certainly can stop making life (schools, workplaces, socially) for these people so difficult.

5/ It's a tale as old as time. The #MECFS knows it well.
- Ignored by medical community
- Tireless advocacy to get help in spite of the struggle
- Finally get recognition in press/discourse/meetings
- Get bashed by medicine for running too fast https://twitter.com/fi_lowenstein/status/1326226685952471041?s=20

6/ @SusannahFox today made the fantastic point that we ALL owe a lot to the #LongCovid community - a community that had to form on its own, despite attacks early on from the medical establishment.
Let's stop undermining them. h/t @meganranney https://twitter.com/SusannahFox/status/1326499642230575104?s=20

7/ While many psychiatrists ( @drjessigold) don't operate this way anymore, we have to realize that when these communities see news about #LongCovid being a mental illness, they connect it to the dozens of times they've been written off. https://twitter.com/KenSmithNC/status/1326279777448153088?s=20
8/ All healthcare workers and science writers need to learn this history. The disability community has been burned too many times. It's on medicine to learn why this mistrust exists and to work to undo it.
#LongCovid is a test. Treat it as such. Study.

9/ It's a really simple logical fallacy steeped in ableism. Sure, we need data to understand the #LongCovid #LongHauler phenomenon.
But why is our working assumption that it doesn't exist until proven otherwise?
