That year our shortest bus ride was 4 hours
Average was 7
Longest was 15
It didn’t help that our bus driver did not sleep during the day before our long night rides
I thought I was going to die

After most road series we would sleep on the bus
Except every hour the driver would hit the bumpy part of the road that’s meant to keep drivers awake
Every morning when we’d arrive at our destination his eyes would be blood shot

Our first road trip we smelled something burning on the bus
We pulled over and saw the back axel was glowing orange
We thought it was smart to stop for a bit
But the driver said keep going
Part of me thought I should hang back and leave the team
But didn’t wanna be a sissy

About 15 mins later we heard a THUD
The back wheel fell off
We pulled over to the side of the road
No replacement bus would be ready until 9a, 8 hours later
So we “slept” in the bus parked on a slanted road by a dude ranch
Next game was 6 hours after the new bus came

That year 5 of us lived with a host family
10 permanent residents in a 2,500 sq foot house
& 3 dogs and many kids sleeping over
It was a shit show
One morning the best friend of our 15 year old host sister knocked on my bedroom door
“Alex! We need you to talk to the police”

Apparently the 15 y.o host sister blew out a tire driving w/o a license around the neighborhood
The cops came b/c the neighbors called saying the girl was high on drugs driving around
That wasn’t true, but wasn’t a bad guess
The girls wanted me to tell the police I was driving

“All good Alex! The cop was the one who arrested her last year for smoking cigarettes”
These girls would get blackout drunk half the nights

While the middle school boys at the house would eat entire sleeves of oreos each along with a 4 pack of energy drinks while we were at the field
