Southern hemisphere data show that non-pharmaceutical interventions, COVID-19 mitigation strategies dramatically reduced influenza activity. Will we see the same in the US? Remember the public health measures in other countries have been more stringent than here

How can you distinguish COVID-19 from influenza? Some important differences in incubation period, but lots of similarities in other features. #COPedsID2020
Bacterial co-infection and pediatric hospitalization rates higher for influenza. Risk factors for co-infection very similar. Both influenza and COVID-19 high risk in infants, COVID-19 higher risk in adolescents as well. #COPedsID2020
Now the sad part: Symptoms are mostly the same, virtually impossible to distinguish between influenza and COVID-19 based on clinical presentation. Means we will likely be doing a lot of testing for COVID-19, influenza or both this winter. #COPedsID2020
