Big news day: there will be a full “hand” recount of the presidential race, and the PSC runoff has been postponed to be joined with the January 5 runoff.

I have a few thoughts on both. https://twitter.com/bluestein/status/1326559686552903681
First—if a full hand recount is what is necessary to restore public faith in our electoral system, then I support it. Postponing a statewide runoff was absolutely necessary, and frankly we need legislation to make that permanent.

But let’s be clear—a recount is NOT an audit.
And neither state law nor regulation have any mandatory provisions for a hand recount.

Indeed, I proposed to the SEB that any race going into recount also be audited. The SEB ignored that recommendation coming from a Democrat.
Clearly the @GaSecofState is taking this unprecedented step to mollify Republican detractors.

But a hand recount will put ENORMOUS stress on the counties, and require weeks and weeks of additional efforts, all to quiet specious claims.
A full hand recount would never have been contemplated if the Trump campaign had not demanded it.

That campaign should have to pay every county for every man-hour they put into conducting this recount.

You damn well better believe they would do that to a Democratic campaign.
