I wish the people arguing covid policy from all the mistakes made by public health folks in the spring (and there were many!) would spend less time on recriminations and more time outlining what they would do to prevent hospitals from buckling now.
Do you not believe that hospitals can be overwhelmed by a continuation of the trends we're seeing?

Do you think hospitals are overrated so it basically doesn't matter if they run out of beds?

Do you think that whatever excess deaths we experience will be an acceptable price?
The question of whether some jerk said something jerkish in the spring, or was too optimistic, or got an important fact wrong, or outright deceived people about the benefits of masking--well, it's worth litigating in the aftermath.

But it doesn't actually tell us what to do now.
