Alex Smith looked a lot more confident on Sunday than he did previously. Can see it from his first pass attempt. He knows the flat defender takes away the wheel route early, but looks at him and even throws a pump fake to hold him outside and create space inside for McLaurin
Footwork was sharper too. Watch him match his feet to his eyes as he works through his progression. Constantly resets as he checks every read, making sure he’s in a good position to deliver the throw each time. Good fundamentals example for Dwayne Haskins to learn from.
Liked how early Smith pulled the trigger here to Cam Sims on the dagger concept. Giants used a disguised Tampa-2, but Smith threw with great anticipation, starting his throw before Sims had cleared the flat defender. Clearly confident that he knew the coverage despite disguise
Washington’s been trying to hit this version of 4 verts vs Cover-3 all year and struggled. Think Smith is a touch late with his decision to throw, which allows the CB to get back into the frame, but McLaurin does a fantastic job making the adjustment and then scoring.
Will be interesting to see how Smith does going forward. He was far more confident and aggressive throwing down the field vs the Giants than he was back in 2018. It was more resembling his style from 2017 with the Chiefs when he was much more aggressive. Want to see it continue.
