A thread on what happened in the PA row office races. The overall theme is that besides the suburbs of Philadelphia basically the GOP candidates got better margins everywhere.
Take Philly where Garrity is at 17.5% up 1.5% from 2016 and shaved 30k net votes off the margin. Allegheny is a similar 30k net gain vs the 2016 GOP Treasurer candidate.
Chester on the otherhand when from a 4k net loss to a 26k net loss. That bleeding was more than offset by what appears to be a total collapse for rural Democrats. Take Armstrong county as an example. 2016 GOP Treasurer candidate wins it by 7k votes and 20%.
In 2020, Garrity won by 17k votes (+10k) and almost 50 points!!! Its not just the west. Lycoming was +15k in 2016 +30%, this year +25k and +42%. These rural margins are just astounding.
Or Luzerne county, Torsella won by 8k and 6%, this year it flipped to GOP +11k and +8%. That's a 20k net vote swing in four years. Even Lancaster which was supposed to be "sliding away form GOP" was +48kk and +20%. This year it was +61k and +23%.
It Erie Torsella carried it by 13 points and 16k votes in 2016 but in 2020 he only carried it by 2 points and less than 3k votes.
Northumberland county in 16. GOP +18, +6k votes. In 2020 that was a +36 points and +15k votes. Wyoming County. GOP +25 points and +3k votes in 2016. In 2020, Garrity won by 38 points and 5.5k votes.
York County went from R+24 and +48k votes to R+29 and +66k votes. Torsella actually got 7k more votes in York in 2020 but Garrity got 24,385 more votes than Voit.
Oh Washington County.... GOP +5 and +5k votes in 2016 to GOP +20 points and +23k votes. That's 18k additional votes added just in Washington county. Wild.
Somerset county. GOP +33 points and 12k votes in 2016. In 2020.... GOP +53 points and +21k votes!!!
Fayette county. Torsella won it by 200 votes and 0.5%. Garrity wins it in 2016 by 27 points and 16k votes. As a measuring stick in 2008 The Dem treasurer won by 28 points so in 2 cycles Fayette has swung 56 points and net 30k votes. NET!
In short if we thought we had found the bottom of the barrel for Democrats in rural areas... we had not.
