I know I wasn’t going to make a thread; however, due to recent events and seeing so many others in the Asian community add to the conversation I’ve decided my thoughts as fairly new Asian in this space.

A big issue I have with so many of the other threads is that they are forgiving far too quickly. That isn’t to say that we shouldn’t let people change and grow but no one involved seems to have done the work to do so. Obviously not m*tt m*rcer AND DEFINITELY NOT dar*er h*e
Both apologies are incredibly flat and they both chose to retweet someone is obviously their yes-man who speaks of good intention and gives simplistic explanation of why people are offended as if we don’t already know. He was not writing to Asians. But to everyone else
It is more then taking up space where Asians can have them. It’s Asians once again accepting the crumbs we are given and not asking for more. It’s Asians stepping on another to make ourself more palpable to everyone else. It’s Asians not calling out other pocs for shitty behavior
Cultural exchange was always possible, but not until Asians stories and our lives are elevated and taken as seriously as anyone else’s. In this case, there was no way of this being done respectfully. There is no other Asians in the cast or in the creation, so who is exchanging?
H*e created the character as a non Asian person and made insulting choices (using a white name, making him the scholar) WITH A WHITE PERSON IN MIND! It’s very important we never forget that he made a poc for a white person to play, it’s not like he was the best person for the job
His defense reeked of self preservation, and his retweeting of Dan*el was infuriating to say the least. AND PEOPLE RETWEETED not realizing that maybe a thread retweeted by the person in trouble maybe only a slap on the wrist as a opposed to the burn they deserve
So this is that burn. For those mutuals of any of the people mentioned; I was beyond angry to see what went down, I was touched by the outrage from my allies, but I was disappointed to see so many retweets the most lukewarm defense I’ve ever read
I’m resolved now. Obviously no one involved learned anything but I have. I wanted to just hangout in this space and enjoy it while I could but now I am resolved to do as much as I can to bring diversity to every table, and to make myself so visible in this community
And I will do all of this without making myself small and digestible to white people, and by telling my stories and my people’s stories. Mark my fucking words. And watch the fuck out for me.
