THREAD: Why you should never use Australia as an example for anything “progressive” -

After 200 years it remains the only commonwealth country and previous colonial nation to have not signed a treaty with its indigenous First Nations people.

It has some of the worlds most inhumane immigration practices. Noting that refugees and asylum seekers are kept on a seperate set of islands with terrible living conditions (Christmas Island).

In the space of the last couple of years 600 Native people have died in police custody. Please be reminded that they represent 3.3% of the population.

It’s is the 16th Largest polluter even though it only has a population of 27million (less than several US states).

It practices fascist economic policy by dictating what certain communities can spend their money on. E.g. welfare cards that restrict cash withdrawal and purchases at certain types of business.

Australia’s policy’s are why the Great Barries Reef on of our natural wonders of the world will be dead by the year 2030 (yes that soon).

The Australian government still refuses to acknowledge climate change as real threat while the continent is set a blaze every fire season.

Apart from socialised medicine, there is hardly anything “progressive” about Australia. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk.
