We are determined to support any student who wishes to spend the Christmas break elsewhere to do so safely, as well as look after those who wish to remain in York or stay on campus. We have emailed students today following the publication of @educationgovuk guidance: (1/5)
https://coronavirus.york.ac.uk/update-messages-and-emails. Term ends on Fri 4 Dec. The Govt has created a ‘student travel window’ until Wed 9 Dec. For students in on-campus accommodation, we will set up a system to book departure times so that we avoid too many people gathering on campus at the same time. (2/5)
We are requesting that the Govt includes the University of York in the scheme to roll out voluntary, rapid turnaround, mass testing to students by the end of term. If a student tests positive before their departure, we will support them to self-isolate. (3/5)
We will have plenty on offer for students who stay, either for the whole break or for a short period of self-isolation. We encourage students to contact the Student Hub so we know how best to support you: https://www.york.ac.uk/students/support/student-hub/. (4/5)
We are planning for our term to start, as scheduled, on Mon 11 Jan 2021. We will be sharing more details soon about what to expect in January, including how we can support a safe return and also extend a welcome to new students arriving with us. (5/5)
